The incident involving media personality Tracy Melon during an event in Mbarara has sparked a significant wave of outrage and solidarity within the Ugandan entertainment industry. Following reports and viral footage of a fan attempting to inappropriately touch her while she was on stage, several high-profile figures have voiced their condemnation.

The response from the industry has focused on the safety of female entertainers and the need for stricter security measures at public events.

  • Sheebah Karungi: Known for her vocal stance on women’s rights, Sheebah reportedly condemned the act, emphasizing that a woman’s body is not public property and demanding more respect for female artists and hosts.

  • Media Colleagues (Galaxy FM): Her team at Galaxy FM has been supportive, using their platforms to highlight the dangers media personalities face. They’ve called for event organizers in regions like Mbarara to provide “buffer zones” between the stage and the crowd.

  • Spice Diana: Often a target of similar rowdy behavior herself, Spice Diana reportedly expressed solidarity, noting that “talent does not give anyone the right to harass us.”

  • Social Media Influencers: Many Ugandan influencers have used the hashtag #RespectFemaleEntertainers to call out the “entitlement” of certain fans who believe paying for a ticket grants them physical access to performers.

The incident took place during a promotional event/concert in Mbarara City. While Tracy Melon was engaging with the crowd, a male fan breached the informal boundary and attempted to “grab” or touch her inappropriately.

The footage of the event showed Tracy visibly uncomfortable, and while she handled the situation with professional poise, the clip went viral, prompting a national conversation about the “soupy beans” culture and the sexualization of female media figures in Uganda.
