Singer Ssewa Ssewa happy with the new copyright that was granted to creatives to earn and enjoy benefits of their art. For many years , Uganda’s entertainment industry has been lacking the copyright law to protect the works of creative artists and innovators leaving many in doubts and fear to lose ownership of their innovations.

The president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation Eddy Kenzo has been fighting alot to have the copyright law passed so that art industry can have value and creative artists earn from their art. Through the tough fights , the parliament of the republic of Uganda passed and accepted the copyright law to be passed and it is only awaiting approval from the president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the law to start working.

Ssewa Ssewa who invented the Janzi instrument says they have been losing millions of money because of the so called “aboves” who do not have respect for their art. He says many people have been duplicating their work but since the law has not been in place , no one has been having a right to sue the other.  He says he registered his Janzi band in 2009 and also patented the Janzi instrument in 2017 but the most surprising thing, another brand came up in 2024 as a kit sponsor on a National item having the exact name he patented but since he had no rights of copyright infringement he could tag, he played a deaf ear, he adds on that it’s time for the music to play the either way, it’s time for them to take on the stage as they’ve been kept behind curtains for so long.
